Small Kitchen Design Ideas

IT’S A COMMON MISCONCEPTION THAT ALL THE KITCHENS WE DESIGN ARE IN BIG SPACES.

This is probably because it’s often our bigger kitchen projects that feature in our portfolio and brochures. One reason for this is that smaller spaces can be trickier to photograph.

In fact, we frequently work in small rooms. So, I thought would write a quick post on kitchens in small spaces.

Many of our customers live in flats and apartments, particularly those near our London kitchen showroomin Westminster. In the centre of town, where space is at a premium, ceiling heights can often be more than the width of a room. But that doesn’t mean inadequate kitchen storage or boring design.

Examples of Smaller Kitchen Designs

This kitchen, for example, is only 2.4m wide. But the ceiling is around 2.8m high. To make the most of this height our unique 1.35m high wall units are being utilised. While the top shelves store less-used items, the wall units are almost double the volume of a standard 750mm unit to create valuable extra room in a small space.

In this kitchen, only 2.3m wide, you virtually touch wall to wall.

Similarly, here’s a kitchen currently being fitted in a studio apartment. (Worktops coming soon!)

And finally, here our challenge was in a small converted-loft space with neither width nor height, plus an awkward sloping ceiling to circumnavigate! I like to think we made the most of that too.

So, the moral of the story is it doesn’t always have to be big to be special or timeless, yet completely modern. And small footprints can still offer optimised kitchen storage solutions.

Finally, at The Kitchen Store, we most definitely ‘do’ small kitchens too.  Often on smaller budgets - but always with an innovate, personal solution.
