What Does A Traditional Kitchen Look Like In 2021?

If we asked you what a traditional kitchen looked like, what would you imagine? Are you thinking of natural wood furniture with matching worktop, in a quaint thatched cottage?

Or perhaps a stone floor, a freestanding Aga and a separate dining table…

Think again.

Actually, when our clients come to us asking for something ‘traditional,’ what they usually mean is a classic kitchen: a style that generally is framed, sometimes of timber, and arguably softer than its modern, handleless counterpart.

But that’s where ‘traditional’ ends. Classic framed kitchens can be very modern, yet won’t feel out of date in five years.

A blend of both

The big question is, how is this achieved?

Well, it’s all about the right design, and paying attention to detail. Our Head of Retail Mark Davies explains more in this one-minute video, using one of our showcase displays in our Horsham Kitchen Showroom as a perfect example.

This Marlborough Kitchen by Masterclass uses some simple methods to blend classic and modern styling seamlessly:

How to make traditional modern

Firstly, try mixing things up a bit. A frequent way we achieve this is by using two on-trend colours (the above kitchen uses Hunter Green and Farringdon Grey – but many more contemporary colours are available in our palette).

Unexpected features also help keep the traditional style fresh, like rounded cupboards and worktop edges. We also love this customised larder storage solution seen below from our Signature Collection by Masterclass.

Finally, pay attention to the finishing touches. Modern kitchen lighting and handles, and open shelving make this kitchen the perfect choice for 2021!
